The Unspoken First Impression, Why Your Online Image Matters More Than Ever

Last week, while heading to a client’s office, I walked by a bank and noticed a poster of a financial advisor. Honestly, judging by that photo, I’m not sure I’d trust him with my money! 😅

How often do we see a profile picture and think, “He/she/they don’t look trustworthy”? It really highlights how impactful our online presence can be. And let’s be real—before you even shake someone’s hand, they’ve probably already Googled you. Whether it’s a potential client, a business partner, or a recruiter, your online presence is making an impression before you get the chance to.

I was chatting about this with Matt Smith, Sales Director at RX Global, during his recent portrait session. As we wrapped up, he said something that stuck with me: "Your LinkedIn profile, your website... these are the first places people go before they meet you. If your photo doesn’t reflect confidence, credibility, and approachability, you’re already at a disadvantage."

And he’s right. In a world where business is built on relationships, your headshot isn’t just a picture, it’s your first handshake.

No forced smiles, no awkward angles, just a portrait that feels like you.

In this session with Matt Smith, we are to create some executive portraits that showcase his leadership and approachable personality. The goal was to capture his authentic style while keeping the look professional and polished.

We teamed up to find the right setting and lighting that highlighted Matt’s personality and focused on keeping the poses natural and relaxed. The result? Photos that are perfect for LinkedIn profiles, company websites, and press releases.

These portraits do more than just look good—they show the trust and credibility that is so important in today’s business world. A great business portrait helps position you as a leader in your field, and these photos do just that.

Time for a Change?

If your current headshot isn’t working for you, let’s fix that. A great business portrait should open doors, not close them.

So, what’s your photo saying about you?
