"Why does personal branding photography cost so much?"
Or, as I've heard it phrased more bluntly: "Some might say you charge crazy..."
Maybe. I'm not the cheapest option, and I don't want to be.
But here's what most people don't understand about personal branding photography pricing—and why the investment is worth it if you're serious about your business.
You're Not Paying for an Hour in Front of a Camera
When you see a quote for $1,000, $2,000, or more, it's easy to think: "That's a lot for a few hours of shooting."
And you're right-if all you were paying for was the shoot day.
But that's not what you're paying for.
What You're Actually Paying For
Before the shoot:
- Strategy call to understand your business, goals, and audience
- Detailed questionnaire mapping exactly what images you need
- Mood board tailored to your brand (not mine)
- Wardrobe guidance so you show up confident
- Shot list ensuring we're not winging it
This is the work that separates "some photos" from "images that support how you grow and scale your business."
During the shoot:
- Reading the room and adjusting energy
- Directing every pose, expression, and angle
- Shooting tethered so you see results in real-time
- Tweaking lighting, background, and composition
- Making you look confident even when you don't feel it
This is 15+ years of advertising and fashion photography experience at work.
After the shoot:
- Culling hundreds of images to select the strongest
- Professional editing and color-correction
- Retouching to ensure you look polished (but still like yourself)
- Delivering images in the right formats for all platforms
Hours of post-production to meet the standard you're paying for.
The Difference Between a Cost and an Investment
If you're only looking for a quick, cheap photo for your website, this probably isn't the right fit. And that's okay.
But here's what often happens with budget shoots:
- No strategy—you're guessing what you need
- Minimal direction—you're left figuring out poses alone
- Generic results—the photos don't differentiate you
- Images you don't use—they sit unused on your desktop
Six months later, you're back searching for a photographer because you still don't have what you need.
That's a cost.
Strategic personal branding photography is an investment.
You get:
- Images that position you correctly in your market
- A content library lasting 12-18 months (or longer)
- Photography that attracts your ideal clients
- Confidence showing up online, on LinkedIn, on your website, in proposals
That's ROI.
My clients aren't looking for the cheapest option. They're looking for images that book clients, close deals, build authority, and support business growth.
Why I Don't Compete on Price
I could lower my prices. I could skip the strategy call, mood board, shot list, tethered shooting, and rush the editing.
But that's not the business I run.
I'm here for people who:
- Understand personal branding photography is a business tool, not vanity
- Want a photographer who thinks strategically, not just aesthetically
- Value proper planning over winging it
- Are ready to invest in how they're seen
If that's you, we'll work well together.
Making the Investment Work
I care about this work being accessible to people ready to level up.
While a 50% retainer typically secures your date, I'm open to discussing payment plans to make the investment work for your cash flow.
I'd rather work with the right clients on a payment plan than the wrong clients at the wrong price.
The Bottom Line- Professional personal branding photography costs more because it's not just photography.
It's strategy. Planning. Direction. Refinement. Years of experience knowing what works.
It's the difference between "some photos" and "images that support how you scale your business."
If you want images that actually work for your business, let's talk.
How much does personal branding photography cost in Sydney?
Sessions at Studio TingTing start from A$1,250 for 2 hours and A$2,500 for 4 hours. Both include strategy, planning, direction, and professional retouching — not just shoot time.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes. A 50% retainer secures your date and payment plans are available for the right clients. Reach out and we'll work something out.
How long until I receive my images?
Retouched images are delivered via private online gallery. Turnaround time is discussed during your strategy call based on the scope of your shoot.
Is it worth investing if I'm just starting out?
Especially then. Having strong images from day one means you launch looking established, not like you're still figuring it out. The photos grow with your business.
