Let’s get something out of the way first.

If you hate being in front of the camera, you’re not difficult, awkward, or “bad at photos.”

You’re normal.

Most of the people I photograph- founders, business owners, creatives, and professionals tell me the same thing before we start.

“I’m really uncomfortable on camera.”

“I’m not photogenic.”

“I’m awkward.”

“I don’t photograph well.”

“You’ll need to Photoshop me.”

And honestly? That’s usually a good sign.

It often means you care about how you’re perceived. You don’t want anything to feel forced. You’re aware that how you show up visually matters and you want it done properly.

The problem isn’t you.

It’s how most photoshoots are approached.

Why So Many People Hate Being Photographed

For most people, being on camera feels uncomfortable for very specific reasons:

  • You don’t know what to do with your body
  • You’re worried about looking awkward or unflattering
  • You’re told to “just be yourself” without any real direction

That lack of structure creates anxiety.

And anxiety shows up in photos.

So it’s no surprise that many people avoid branding photos altogether or put them off far longer than they should.

Avoiding Photos Doesn’t Protect Your Brand

Whether you love it or not, your visual presence plays a role in how your business is perceived.

Your website, LinkedIn, media features, proposals, and social platforms all rely on imagery to communicate:

  • credibility
  • professionalism
  • trust
  • authority

If your visuals don’t reflect the level you’re operating at, people feel it even if they can’t quite explain why.

Branding photography isn’t about ego or self-promotion.

It’s about clarity.

And the right approach makes all the difference.

A Different Approach to Branding Photography

I don’t expect my clients to know how to pose, perform, or suddenly feel confident on camera.

That’s my job. Every shoot I run is:

  • structured
  • guided
  • intentional

I take time to warm you up.

I guide you where to look, how to breathe into a pose, how to move, when to pause.

I demonstrate poses, adjust posture, and direct minute by minute. From movement and pacing to expression, so you’re never left guessing.

Before and during the shoot, we talk through:

  • how the images will be used
  • what you need to communicate visually
  • what you’re uncomfortable with (and what to avoid)

The goal isn’t to turn you into someone you’re not.

It’s to help you show up as yourself with clarity, ease, and confidence.

Here’s what one client had to say:

“Tammy is an incredibly warm, friendly, and polished professional. As someone who’s usually uncomfortable in front of a camera, I was put completely at ease from our first contact. She takes care of everything: from helping you choose what to wear, to showing you how to stand and what to do with your hands. The whole process is easy, stress-free, and genuinely fun. Then she delivers absolutely outstanding photographs. My mini-branding shoot with her was the most amazing experience! I can’t recommend her highly enough.”

This is exactly the experience strategy-led branding photography is designed to deliver.

Who This Type of Branding Photography Is For

This approach is especially suited to:

  • Founders and business owners
  • Creatives and consultants
  • Service-based professionals
  • People who feel confident in their work, but not on camera

You Don’t Need to Love the Camera

You don’t need to be “photogenic.”

You don’t need to know your angles.

You don’t need to fake confidence.

You just need a photographer who knows how to guide you and understands that branding photography is about perception, not performance.

If you’ve been avoiding photos because it feels uncomfortable, awkward, or exposing, you’re not alone.

And you don’t have to stay stuck there.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I've never done a professional shoot before?

Most clients haven't. Every shoot is fully directed , you'll be guided pose by pose, expression by expression. No experience needed, just show up.

What if I'm really stiff in front of the camera?

Stiffness comes from not knowing what to do. Once you have clear direction, it disappears fast. Most clients loosen up within the first 15 minutes.

Do I need to practise poses beforehand?

No. Over-rehearsed poses look exactly that-rehearsed. Just bring your outfits and trust the direction on the day.

What if I hate all the photos?

It hasn't happened yet and that's because nothing is left to chance. The planning before shoot day ensures the images are aligned with what you need before the camera clicks.
